Tasks (excerpt):
- Recognizing and/or determining nursing and psychosocial needs
- Developing appropriate care and support concepts and implementing and evaluating them in an interdisciplinary team
- Gerontopsychiatric specialists work either in inpatient or day care settings or provide outpatient care to elderly people with physical, mental, and/or psychological changes in their own homes, applying various quality assurance methods
The training focuses on:
- Getting to know innovative care concepts
- Expanding scientifically based specialist knowledge of geriatrics, geriatric psychiatry, and related disciplines
- Strengthening personal and action-oriented skills
- The opportunity to build a special relationship and care structure for people with psychiatric disorders, especially dementia
- Completed examination in a nursing profession (health and nursing care; geriatric care; curative education, nursing specialist)
- At least 1 year of professional experience
- This additional training enables gerontopsychiatric specialists to take on specialized work and get involved even deeper into the field of geriatric care.
- The training provides participants with all the necessary skills to become the central contact person for gerontopsychiatric care in their facility.
- For professional development, gerontopsychiatric specialists can pursue a university degree in health, social services, or psychology.
