Integration Project: Trainee Service for Nursing Trainees

Integration Project: Trainee Service for Nursing Trainees

A Temporary New Home: How the Ortenau Region Becomes a Home for International Nursing Trainees

New job, new country, new language—and suddenly everything is different. For international nursing trainees, starting out in Germany means far more than just a new apprenticeship. To ensure that this fresh start becomes not just a new job but a real home, a project launched in May 2025 by Akadmie² for Nursing and Health in collaboration with the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) focuses on community, action, and genuine togetherness. The goal of the initiative is to support international nursing trainees in their free time, help them build social connections, and introduce them to the region’s diverse recreational opportunities.

After all, integration doesn’t end after work—it often begins right there. Get out of the dorm, get out into life!

  • What can I actually do here in my free time? Where can I meet people?
  • And how do I make friends?
  • Where can I go shopping?
  • How do I find my way around the city and region?

This is exactly where the project comes in.

The idea:

Not just to show what the region has to offer, but to create genuine connections. No stuffy events—just shared experiences.

Volunteering 2.0:

Engagement That Brings People Together The goal of the project is to thrive on the commitment of citizens of all generations. The project thrives on people who are eager to make a difference and enjoy spending time together.

Volunteers, organizations, and initiatives can get actively involved.

Through this project, the Akademie² for Nursing and Health is sending a strong message of openness and solidarity. It aims to show that integration can be fun—active, open, and on equal footing.
